Just over a week…

That time of year is upon us theatrical Brightonians once again: The week before the Fringe Festival. It’s easy to recognise us: we’re the ones with our heads in our hands, scurrying around North Laine, bashfully handing out flyers, searching for that elusive prop/costume/set piece/elaborate-suicide-device, and generally stuck to our phones 24/7. Our partners/housemates haven’t seen us in months, but in a week, one blessed week, it will all be over. We will be on! We will be performing this project that has been rehearsed for the last million hours of our lives, that has been planned and deliberated over for years, that will be truly artistic and inspired. But, for now, we’re bricking it.

Or, we’re doubly bricking it. I’m one of that even madder lot who is running two shows in this Festival Fringe: not the brightest idea, but the last few months have been amazing fun. The problem is now: the point when the proverbial hits the fan, and I need to be in an immeasurable number of places at once.

I’ll start with the slightly more elaborate project: OEDIPUS. You’d think it couldn’t be that hard to put on a show outside, wouldn’t you? To give you an example, yesterday was spent calling everyone imaginable about constructing an outdoor wall, made of wood and fabric. However, success has been achieved: a man who builds yurts has saved the day! OEDIPUS is on in Jubilee Square, from May 05-08 at 7.30pm, tickets are £10/£8, available from the Brighton Dome (01273709709).

As to A FISTFUL OF SNOW… well, let’s just say it’s much easier to organise a one-man comedy show indoors. Danny Alder (who runs the company with me and stars in the show) is off to record something for the Argus today, I believe he’ll be doing interviews in character… head to www.argus.co.uk and see what the fuss is all about. A FISTFUL OF SNOW is on Upstairs at Three and Ten, May 02 and 03 at 6.00pm, May 19, 20 and 21 at 8.30pm, tickets are £9/£7 and are available from www.otherplaceproductions.co.uk.

Well, that’s a long post to start! Expect less words but more posts as time goes on…
